Student Achievement: Culinary Arts

Kahlan Myers was a competitor in the SkillsUSA Culinary competition.  In order to be a contestant at the state level, Kahlan had to win the District competition, which she did, back in January.  

Kahlan placed 6th in the state at the Culinary Arts competition in Hershey.  For her contest she was asked to do the following:

  • Demonstrate and apply food safety principles, procedures, and HACCP and key practices for ensuring food safety
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of proper cooking methods and techniques as required
  • Demonstrate knife skills and proper cutting techniques
  • Demonstrate and apply the proper use of equipment
  • Demonstrate and apply creative preparation, portioning, and presentation of food items
  • Apply methodology and evaluation of job-related observable skills, competencies, skill proficiencies, and scoring sheets / test conducted by ACF-certified Chef and certified Culinary instructors.

Main Dish and Sides:    Mustard Breaded Chicken  - Rice Pilaf and Broccoli with Hollandaise Sauce

Dessert:    Apple Bread Pudding with Crème Anglaise
